The technical and sales teams at Altkom Software were highly professional and immediately earned our trust. After just one meeting, we knew they were the right choice. We’ve worked with other IT companies before, and I have to say that working with Altkom was an especially positive experience. We had no issues with service availability — our website and mobile app remained fully responsive throughout the entire Piano Competition. The project was an absolute success.
Ensuring 99.9% Service Availability During Sudden Traffic Spikes

PROJECT
Genesis and business expectations
The Fryderyk Chopin Institute is the organiser of one of the world’s most renowned and prestigious piano competitions. Each edition of the International Chopin Competition draws the attention of millions of people globally, with audiences tuning in via television and online platforms. The event spans from 2 to 23 October, encompassing preliminary rounds, the final, and winners’ concerts – during which traffic to the website and mobile app increases significantly.
The client’s existing infrastructure and software were not equipped to handle such sudden and high volumes of user activity. In previous years, this resulted in temporary service outages during the competition, negatively impacting the Institute’s image and limiting the ability to promote the event at scale.

Who have we helped?
The Fryderyk Chopin Institute is the world’s leading centre dedicated to the legacy of Fryderyk Chopin. Its mission is to preserve, research, and promote the composer’s heritage. The Institute operates the Fryderyk Chopin Museum and is actively engaged in various initiatives promoting Chopin’s work, including the organisation of the international festival “Chopin and His Europe.”
Business challenges
A key aspect of the project was aligning the infrastructure model with actual operational and economic needs. Maintaining a permanent infrastructure capable of handling millions of users was not cost-effective – particularly given that, under normal circumstances, the website attracted only a few thousand visits per day. A flexible solution was required to ensure high availability of services during sudden traffic surges, while avoiding unnecessary costs during low-traffic periods.
- Extremely variable user traffic – from a few thousand requests per day outside the event to tens of millions during the live-streamed final.
- Lack of scalability in the client’s existing infrastructure and application layer.
- Limited in-house DevOps expertise.
- High availability expectations, with an SLA of 99.9%.
ACTIONS
Project execution process
We conducted an AWS stress-test, AWS Well-Architected Framework audit, and a cloud cost audit.
Scope and delivery model
In response to the identified challenges and high availability requirements, a cloud-based solution was implemented using AWS services with automated resource scaling.
As a result, during peak load – coinciding with the live broadcast of the competition final – the system successfully handled over 48 million HTTPS requests within 3 hours, maintaining full service availability with zero downtime.
